FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What types of media and ink do you offer?
All products are plotted using water-resistant, ultraviolet-resistant inks on two different types of media.
Laminated Paper is the choice for 70 to 80% of our clients. It provides adequate durability and allows use of a dry-erase marker. It is also the most economically priced (basis weight: 35#, thickness: 6.4 mil).
Heavy-Duty Canvas. This is a more durable choice. It is much thicker, not quite as bright white, and has a more “artistic” look and feel (105#, 18 mil). Heavy-Duty Canvas can be provided with or without lamination.
When selected, lamination is added to both the front and back of each wall map. Print resolution does not vary between media types and is very clear on every choice.
What is your maximum print size?
The maximum size for a single-piece wall map is 60″ x 144″. Plots larger than 60″ wide can also be produced and shipped in multiple, overlapping pieces. Multiple-piece maps can be produced at virtually any size. We even offer a WAC Title covering the ENTIRE Continental United States! This map is an impressive 15.5 feet wide by 9.5 feet tall!!!
Do you offer quantity discounts?
Yes. Volume discounts will be offered (depending on the size of order).
How can I make an account on your website?
You will need to select an item to purchase and add it to the shopping cart and then proceed to checkout. The account creation process is next.
Will my finished print have a white border?
Yes. All plots will have at least a 1/4″ white margin on all sides. Larger plots will have at least 1″ margins on all sides for mounting hardware (not included). If you would like us to trim the images so there are no margins, please include the request with your order.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express in our store. Sorry, we cannot accept personal checks.
How will my order be shipped?
Your order will be shipped in a heavy duty mailing tube or a flat box, depending on the size.
Will I be charged Sales Tax?
Only shipments delivered in Florida will be charged 7% Sales Tax.
Send your questions to email@example.com and well provide answers as quickly as possible.
What types of aeronautical charts are available?
Higher Plane offers several beautiful and practical wall plots. Our most popular title is the U.S. VFR Wall Planning Map. The standard published size is 60″ wide by 38 1/4″ tall. This chart can be enlarged to any size making it easier to read and large enough to fill your hangar wall.
We have two versions of the popular U.S. IFR/VFR Low Altitude Planning Chart. We also have VFR Sectionals, Terminal Area and Flyway Planning charts, as well as IFR Low Enroute and IFR Area charts. VFR charts are available for all 50 states and IFR charts are available for all states except Hawaii. These maps are perfect for planning room, office or hangar walls.
Are these the same charts issued by the government?
Yes. All maps are created using digital versions of official FAA charts. Navigation content and details are neither added nor deleted from these custom wall maps.
What types of custom maps can be created?
The VFR sectional charts can be digitally stitched together creating a unique map centered on a location of your choice. 60″ x 43″ Custom Sectional or WAC Titles will cover approximately the same area as both sides of a standard published title combined. (SECTIONAL = 1:500,000 approx. 325nm wide x 250nm tall. WAC = 1:1,000,000 approx. 650nm wide x 500nm tall.)
All maps can also be plotted at larger, easier to read scales. Or maintain the original scale and increase the dimensions to add more coverage. You can even have both… increase Scale AND Size.
A series of drop-down menus will allow you to select all available options. All price variations are clearly shown for each option.
How else can these maps be customized?
Mileage circles can be added to VFR Sectional and US Planning charts. Digitally supplied logos or artwork can also be added to virtually any large format product.
How do I know which maps can be customized?
All options become available when selecting products from our store. If you have any special requests, please send to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will contact you with details.
Can you mount, stretch, or frame my picture after printing?
Sorry, we don’t do any mounting, stretching, or framing. We only print.
How can the map be mounted to the wall?
There are several options, depending on how permanently it will be mounted and type of surface. Usually the best option is adhesive Velcro strips/sheets or a double-sided tape called “mounting tape”. These can be found in most hardware stores. Use an ample amount and it should remain secure. Velcro is typically the best choice, making slight map re-positioning a much simpler process. We only recommend the use of mounting tape with Paper or smaller-sized Heavy-Duty Canvas maps. Canvas maps larger than 60” x 60” are probably too heavy to secure with mounting tape. If your map is large and produced on multiple sheets, mounting tape is the best choice for joining both edges of the overlapping seam(s).
Some clients simply use screws or nails with grommets around the perimeter of the map. Others have built a simple frame around the map which holds all edges against the wall. Another option would be to sandwich the upper and lower map edges between two slender strips of wood (i.e. wooden baseboard molding). Hanging (eyelet) hooks could then be added to the top strip.
If the chart is laminated, you might even try some wall paper paste if you want it to be VERY permanent. WARNING: Higher Plane cannot guarantee results and HIGHLY recommends seeking the advice of a wall paper expert before choosing that option. ***Some clients have experienced difficulties and product damage when using different types of adhesives.
HINT: It is recommended that you have at least one other person to assist with the mounting process… especially with larger maps. Before attempting to mount your new wall map, carefully unroll it on a large, clean flat surface. Smooth out and place weights on the corners and in the center of your map for several hours. Books are a good choice. This will help to eliminate the tendency to try to “roll back up.” For faster results, carefully roll it up in the opposite direction, secure loosely with rubber bands, and let it set for a few hours.
